"The closest point that you can reach the stars." - Herodot

Of all tourism centers surrounding Antalya, Kalkan is one of the few places that has not succumbed to urban construction. Situated on a mountain slope that reaches the shoreline of a rather wide bay, Kalkan still has the look of typical Mediterranean fisherman's village. The harbor was a place where camel caravans and cargo vessels used to call on but nowadays it only offers shelter to boats and yachts.

You will see "Kalamaki" name a lot of place in Kalkan. Because, before 1923 Kalkan was a Greek fisherman's village called Kalamaki. After the bilateral exchange of the inhabitants that took place the same year, the village's Greek populace returned to Greece, and for quite a long time, this village remained just a shelter for fisherman.

Today, this quaint fisherman's village is a place preferred by those who like the idea of a peaceful holiday, away from all the crowds and bustle. There are several lovely pensions and apart hotels. If you staying in Kalkan, you are probably better of letting yourself unwind to the particular atmosphere this small town has to offer. Here you can while away the night relaxing on soft cushions in terrace bars instead of sitting on uncomfortable bar chairs.
